It’s🎗 World Cancer Day 🎗
Did you know 17 people die every minute from cancer? That’s a rate that scares the shit out of me.
I was lucky enough to escape that fate. I was able to beat stage 3b1 cervical cancer. But with that came severe pain, sickness, struggles, appreciation and joy. Diagnosis is scary, being judged is hard, treatment is hard, but I had so much support along the way, I wasn’t giving up. Ever!
The world health organization every world cancer day, sets a theme to help raise awareness for various types of cancer. This year’s theme, “I can, we can” acknowledges that everyone has the capacity to address the cancer burden. We can work together to reduce cancer risk factors. We can overcome barriers to early diagnosis, treatment and palliative care.
I honestly believe social media is playing such a great role is helping others become aware of cancer, the treatments involved, how to deal with diagnosis, how difficult life can get, the burden it causes, and the joys that come from getting through difficult stages of cancer.
Cancer isn’t easy, and certainly doesn’t discriminate. Each person who gets cancer, goes through their own journey. Hopefully, we can share our stories, and help others not have be as scared and face it alone.
